Overflow Grass Parking

Kde to funguje najlepšie

Materiál 100% recyklovaný polypropylén, udržateľne vyrobený v EÚ

Postup inštalácie

  1. Odstráňte existujúci drn a ornici až na pevné podložie. Hneď teraz navrhnite spádovanie: aj priepustný povrch potrebuje miesto, kam odtečie prívalový dážď.

Tráva prerastie cez steny buniek a mriežku úplne zakryje, pričom steny zostanú pripravené okamžite preniesť záťaž, akonáhle príde koleso.

Getting the grass established

This is the part that decides how the surface looks in year three, and it is worth being patient with.

Seed is cheaper and roots into the rootzone more readily. Turf gives you a usable surface faster but needs to knit through into the profile before it takes traffic. Either way, water it properly through the first season and keep vehicles off until the sward is established.

Once it is growing, treat it as lawn: mow it, feed it, and let it recover between uses. Mowers pass straight over the grid, because the cell tops sit below the growing crown.

Which grid depth?

The number on a grid is a decision about how deep the confined rootzone is, and for grass that depth is doing more work than it does under stone.

  • IBRAN®-X50 is our recommendation for grass that has to properly recover. The deeper cell holds more moisture and gives roots more room before they hit anything solid, so the sward survives the summer and the wheel tracks stay green.
  • IBRAN®-X40 where the same surface also has to carry gravel elsewhere, or for lighter, less frequent use.
  • IBRAN®-X30 where finished levels are constrained or excavation has to stay shallow.

Shallow grids dry out first, and they dry out fastest exactly where the tyres run. If the grass matters, go deeper.

Get it right first time

The one thing worth knowing: give it a season before you load it.

A grass grid surface is only as strong as the root structure holding the rootzone together. Grids installed in spring and parked on in June will look tired; the same installation left to establish through a full growing season will take traffic for decades. Where the timetable will not allow it, use turf rather than seed and keep the first few events to the drier months.

    Common Questions

Things that frequently come up when carrying out this project.
Will the grass survive being parked on?

Yes, provided the rootzone is deep enough and the grass is established before heavy use. The grid spreads vehicle load across the whole surface rather than concentrating it under each tyre, and the cell walls stop the rootzone shearing sideways, which is what creates a rut.

Grass grows up over the cell tops so the surface reads as lawn, and it recovers between uses the way any lawn does.

How long before we can park on newly installed grass grids?

Allow one full growing season before heavy or regular use where you can. The surface is only as strong as the root structure holding the rootzone together.

If the timetable does not allow a full season, use turf rather than seed and keep early events to the drier months.

What should I fill grass grids with?

A sand-dominant rootzone, filled level with the cell tops. Topsoil on its own holds water and compacts under wheels, which suffocates roots exactly where you need them strongest. A sand-dominant mix stays open and free-draining under load.

Which grid depth is best for grass parking?

The 50mm grid is our recommendation where grass has to properly recover between uses. A deeper cell holds more moisture and gives roots more room before they hit anything solid, so the sward survives the summer and the wheel tracks stay green.

Shallow grids dry out first, and they dry out fastest exactly where the tyres run.

Can you mow over grass grids?

Yes. The cell tops sit below the growing crown, so a mower passes straight over without catching. Treat the area as lawn: mow it, feed it, and let it recover between uses.

Do grass grids work in winter and heavy rain?

That is the point of them. The surface stays fully permeable, so water passes through the rootzone and the open sub-base into the ground rather than sitting on top.

Combined with load spreading, that is what stops the ruts and standing water you get parking on unreinforced grass in wet conditions.

What sub-base do grass grids need?

100mm to 150mm of compacted open-graded MOT, depending on traffic and ground conditions. Use Type 3 rather than Type 1: it carries the load while still letting water through, which matters on a surface whose whole purpose is to drain.

Compact it in layers rather than all at once.

Are grass grids suitable for emergency vehicle access?

Yes. Fire service access routes and emergency turning areas are a common application, because the surface takes the load when it is needed but stays green the rest of the time. Specify the depth against the heaviest vehicle that will use the route, not the average.

Do I need planning permission for overflow grass parking?

A permeable surface avoids the surface water run-off issues that govern impermeable parking areas.

Change of use may still apply depending on the site and how often it is used, so check with your local planning authority, particularly for commercial or event parking on agricultural land.

How much maintenance does a grass parking area need?

Mowing, feeding and the occasional overseed of any worn patches, which is to say the same as any lawn. There is no raking, no topping up and no resurfacing.

The grid itself needs nothing at all and carries a 25 year warranty subject to documented installation.
